Margaret O'Brien

Hello everybody! In case we've never met, let me introduce myself. I am a disabled chemical engineer who has used music and art for the past 12 years as a therapy in coping with health issues and stress. To express, to escape, to bring joy, to discover there is more to 'me' than I thought.

Have played music for most of my life with my family, but only started writing songs since 1998, and now it feels as natural as walking. Started playing tenor recorder in high school when the movie "Camelot" came out, and Simon and Garfunkel's "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme" came out in the 1960's. I can remember sitting by a tree on the campus of Longwood (my highschool on the South Side of Chicago), playing "Mother Nature's Son," by the Beatles. I bought a Blue Lion dulcimer about 6 years ago after seeing them at a dulcimer festival and falling in love with the instrument. Have always wanted to play guitar but my fingers were never strong enough to play, and the dulcimer is the perfect solution for me, and simpler to play. Now it feels like a part of me.

Have painted fabric and made quilts for over 40 years, on and off. Used to have a little business, but once I started working at Intel, that fell by the wayside in favor of a steady income. Coming back to it now is like finding an old friend. I really don't know what I like better, the painting or the quilting. I could quilt everything in sight!

Well that's it in a nutshell. Hope to meet you someday!
